In a first of its kind approach,

Augustana offers two paths for running in college:

Varsity Roster

The top tier of Augustana’s cross country/track & field team and a NCAA Division II roster. It is possible to join the varsity roster directly out of high school, but spots are limited and determined on the basis of athletic performance.

Developmental Roster

A competitive running club, titled the Viking Distance Project, offers the opportunity for athletes to train and compete at Augustana in an effort to be elevated to the varsity roster.

The Viking Distance Project is a full team itself and mimics the experience of the varsity roster. If someone simply wants to continue running as part of a team and under the guidance of a coach in college, but does not have aspirations of moving up to the varsity roster, that falls within the team’s purpose as well.

We are interested in recruiting you for our developmental roster and would be excited to stay in touch as your college search unfolds. We will also continue to follow your results and elevate your recruitment to our varsity roster if your performances continue to improve.
